Content Editor
The content editor is where you review and refine the text of a compliance page. It looks like the finished document - not like a form or a builder - so you can read your privacy policy the way your users will, and click straight into anything that needs fixing.
It's the default editor for the five wizard-backed page types: Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, EULA, Cookie Policy and Refund Policy.
Opening it
From Home, click Review draft on a page that has unpublished content, or Edit on a published one. The generation wizards also land here when you finish with Publish & open editor.
Editing text
Click any paragraph, heading or list to edit it in place. The block turns into a text area holding its Markdown source; everything around it stays rendered.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
Enter (on a focused block) |
Start editing that block |
⌘↵ / Ctrl+↵ |
Commit the block |
Escape |
Cancel the edit and restore the block |
Tab |
Move between blocks |
Clicking outside a block also commits it. Clearing a block's text entirely deletes that block.
Markdown mode
The </> button in the toolbar swaps the document view for the raw Markdown of the whole page. Use it to restructure a document, paste content in from elsewhere, or write a page from scratch. Click the button again to return to the document view.
If a page has no content yet, you can choose Generate draft to run the questionnaire, or Write it myself to start in Markdown with a blank page.
Saving
Your changes save automatically about a second after you stop typing. The toolbar shows the current state:
| Indicator | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Saving… | A save is in flight |
| Saved | Your draft is up to date |
| Save failed - retry | The save didn't go through - click it to try again |
Nothing you save here is publicly visible until you publish. If you try to leave the page while edits are still being saved, VOTLI asks you to confirm first.
Toolbar
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| ← | Back to Home |
| Status badge | Draft, Published, or Unpublished changes when the live version is behind your draft |
</> |
Toggle Markdown mode |
| Eye | Open a preview of your draft in a new tab |
| Generate / Regenerate | Open the questionnaire - Regenerate appears once you've answered it before |
| Publish / Publish changes | Push the draft live. Reads Published and is disabled when there's nothing new to publish |
Publishing saves any pending edits first, so you never publish a stale version.
Regenerating
Regenerate reopens the questionnaire with your previous answers pre-filled. Submitting it replaces the draft content - useful when you add an SDK, change your data practices, or update your contact details. Your published page is untouched until you publish again.
Important: Regenerating overwrites manual edits you've made to the draft. If you've hand-written sections you want to keep, copy them out first.
Changing how it looks
The content editor deals with words, not design. The card at the bottom of the page links to the two places that control appearance:
- Layout colors - your site's colors and fonts, in Settings → Configuration → Theme
- Open builder - the full visual builder, if you want to add sections, images or custom layout around the legal text
Permissions
Editing requires page update permission; the Publish button requires publish permission. Members without them can still read the document. See Roles & Permissions.
